The mayor of Westover attended the Monongalia County Commission meeting Wednesday morning to discuss the annexation of land.
The proposed annexation is for about 400 acres of the Westridge development, located near the Monongalia County Ballpark, and across from the University Towne Center. Once developed, this area will include several retail businesses.
The mayor turned in copies of ordinances and required signatures from free-holders and qualified voters in the proposed area.
“It’s a big deal for the city. There’s another section of it as well. I spoke that there are two phases we’re doing this in. The second phase will be from that area on further north toward the gateway which is already in Westover,” said Westover Mayor Dave Johnson.
It is estimated that some of the retail businesses in this area will be open by this time next year.
