Monongalia County Schools host 13th annual ‘Reading Rally’

On Wednesday, Monongalia County Schools hosted a free reading rally at the Metropolitan Theatre in Morgantown.

Morgantown Theatre Company performed a few songs and skits for the children from the Lion King Junior. Many other readings took place throughout the evening as well. Kids had the chance to enter to win a Samsung tablet or a gift basket.

“This is to encourage our parents and families as to the importance in reading, and we want parents to know that what they do matters,” said Julie Parsons, Parent Resource Coordinator for the Parent Educator Resource Center for Monongalia County.

The West Virginia University Mountaineer and athletics participated in helping with the evening of fun for the kids. Monongalia County School officials says its important to involve kids in literacy at a young age.
