Morgantown Fire Department teaches children about fire prevention through puppet shows

Monongalia and Preston

Ahead of fire prevention week, the Morgantown Fire department put on a fire prevention puppet show.

The team reinforces fire safety facts and habits to children in Monongalia County.

The shows have been held all throughout the week for more than 1,000 pre kindergarten through first grade kids.

The puppet show was made possible with the help of the UHS drama club and stage acting club, who helped with puppeteer work.

“The information does stay with them because I’ve had kids come up to me years after the fact and remember about stop dropping and rolling, or remember about using a flashlight on a second story window to draw attention to yourself. They retain this information,” said Andy Dotson, public education coordinator with the Morgantown Fire Department.

The final show will be held Friday morning at 9:30 in the University High School auditorium.
