Monongalia and Preston

The fourth annual ‘WVU Medicine Morgantown Marathon’ is coming up on Sunday, September 16.

The 26.2 mile marathon, ‘Thirteener’, and ‘Mountain Mama 8k’ will take place at the WVU Coliseum in Morgantown, with the first race beginning at 7 a.m.

Festivities will kick off on September 15 with the Health and Wellness Expo in the Shell Building next to the Coliseum.

All proceeds from the Marathon will benefit Operation Welcome Home.

Active military members and veterans can be recognized through the “Hero mile” dedications.
Heroes can be registered and their names will be placed at mile markers along the course.

The general public can pay $50 to sponsor one hero, and businesses can pay $200 to sponsor up to four heroes.

“We just encourage the community to come out, support our runners, really cheer them on, because they’ve been working for a long time to be able to accomplish this task, and I certainly want to encourage the runners to come out,” said Jamie Summerlin, race director.
