Mylan Park Elementary and the Rotary Club of Westover hosted a benefit dinner Wednesday afternoon for school staff members.
Westover Rotary Club says they are trying to help Custodian, David Riley and teacher and husband Heather and Kervens Burn with the tough times they are having financially. Both David and Heather are battling Cancer. Rigatoni and meatballs, salad, deserts and drinks were served for $10 for adults and $5 for children.
“Some of our goals at Mylan Park is to teach our kids about empathy and giving back to our community. And what a better way to give back to our own here at Mylan Park,” said Anne Lupo, Principal of Mylan Park Elementary School.
Lupo said Riley and Burn are very active within the school, and all the students and staff care for them dearly.
“We want to get out here and have the community support and help this family and show that our service above self for Rotaries is being shown across this county,” said Debbie Koon-Friel, Secretary of the Westover Rotary Club.
Mylan Park Elementary states that they want to teach the children that people who do good things for others sometimes need something good done for them as well. There were also baked good and raffles to help with the fundraising efforts.
