A Monongalia County teacher received a $25,000.00 Milken Educator Award Tuesday morning at Mylan Park Elementary.

This award is considered to be the “Oscar of teaching.”

Jennifer Reaves received this national recognition during a surprise school assembly on Tuesday morning.

This was presented to her by Milken Educator Awards Senior Vice President Dr. Jane Foley and West Virginia Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Steven Paine.

She is the only Milken Educator award winner from West Virginia this year and is among 40 honorees for 2018-19.

“I love teaching. It’s been something that I’ve been passionate about my entire life. I truly believe that our students are the future and especially in our state that they deserve the opportunity to have a high quality education and I hope that everyday when I come to work, that’s what I strive for to do. Is to make a difference in the life of every student especially in our school and in our state,” said Jennifer Reaves, award recipient.

The Milken Family Foundation Award has devoted more than 138 million in funding to the Milken Educator Awards.
