Tuesday morning, the Preston County Commission held a special ceremony for veterans.
A historic bell on the courthouse lawn was rung 21 times in honor of veterans.
Along with this, a special parking space was dedicated in the courthouse annex parking lot.
The parking spot is reserved for veterans who have been wounded in combat and have received a Purple Heart.
Members of the West Virginia Department of the Military Order of the Purple Heart were in attendance.
“A lot of people, believe it or not, don’t even know what a purple heart means, and the fact that you are recognizing it is very pleasing to not only us, but other members of the purple heart organization,” said John Haynie, Purple Heart recipient
The department is on a mission to have all counties declared Purple Heart counties.
