Delegate Rodney Pyles hosted a town hall Thursday afternoon at the Village Heritage Point in Monongalia County.
The session focused on social security and other senior issues. Pyles updated the attendees on issues that will likely come before the legislature.
Some concerns of the senior citizens included co-pays on medications and water quality.
“It means a great deal to me. Being a senior citizen myself, we need to hear about some of these problems and there may be things that I’m not aware of like some things that are starting to filter back to me about retirement income , state pensions and things,” said Pyles.
“I learned quite a bit. My main concern, I’m a federal employee. Even though I didn’t pay into social security, the federal employees today are paying into social security. I was just concerned if federal employees, that group, was going to be included in Rodney’s proposal,” said Jim Clevenger, a resident at The Village Heritage Point.
Pyles passed around a petition that addressed issues including the social security death benefit which he would like to see increase from $255.00 to $1,000.00.
