Thursday morning, Preston County’s newest commissioner, Samantha Stone, was sworn into office at the courthouse.
The ceremony concluded outside with the ringing of the historic courthouse bell eight times by Stone, her parents, fellow commissioners Dave Price and Don Smith, Stone’s three children, and her husband.
Stone took on a three day training offered by the County Commissioners Association of West Virginia recently, in preparation for her term as commissioner.
“I am so ready to start my journey as a county commissioner. This is something that God laid on my heart. This is something that I feel empowered to do, and I know with the help of God, my family, and all of the citizens in Preston County that I have had the opportunity to meet and speak with, that we can come together and just make some awesome changes in our county,” said Stone.
Immediately following the ceremony , Stone began her duties at the first county commission meeting of the year held in the courthouse annex building.
