West Virginia’s first sanctioned pickleball tournament is coming to Morgantown

Monongalia and Preston

The first sanctioned pickleball event in West Virginia will be held this weekend. The Country Roads Pickleball Classic happens Friday, June 7 to Sunday, June 9, 2019 at the West Virginia University Student Recreation Center in Morgantown.

Pickleball is a sport that mixes badminton, tennis, and ping pong. The game is played with paddles and a plastic ball (similar to a wiffle ball) on a smaller court than a tennis court. Two (a.k.a. singles) or four (a.k.a doubles) players can play at a time, but at this competition, there will only be doubles events.

The tournament will have three divisions of play: ages 18-49, 50+, and an open division with a $4,800 payout.

Registration is now open at pickeballtournaments.com
