Monongalia and Preston

MORGANTOWN W.Va –  The WVU Army ROTC Commissioning Ceremony was held Thursday morning in the Mountainlair Ballrooms.

Sixteen cadets from the Mountaineer Battalion were commissioned as 2nd lieutenants and 12 will be going into active duty. Four cadets will be going into the National Guard and one will be going into the reserves.

This is a time honored tradition that recognizes all of the hard work and dedication of young officers. This is the beginning of the next chapter in their careers.

“The ceremony is really about them and everything they have strove to do at this point and we wish them very, a lot of success in their future so that they can go and do great things for the United States army,” said Timothy Fairhurst, Assistant Professor of Military Science at WVU.

Cadets were pinned by friends and family, and received their first salute after taking an oath.
