On Tuesday, WVU President Gordon Gee gave his bi-annual State of the University Address at the Erickson Alumni Center.
The address discussed a variety of topics, including WVU’s accomplishments, one of them being its Carnegie R1 research ranking, which is the highest possible and shared by only 130 other universities.
Gee also discussed the university’s work to confront the state’s opioid epidemic from every angle.
The theme of the address was “hope”.
“I think that, for too long, we have been too tough on ourselves and we need to also understand that we have enormous challenges, but the way to overcome those challenges is through good education, good healthcare and to make certain that we develop hope for all of our people to see a brighter future,” said Gee.
President Gee also challenged his audience to determine how they will influence change.
