With football season right around the corner, Mountaineer fans might be looking for a new place to grab a bite to eat on game day.
This week’s trip on the Restaurant Road Trip takes us to a new spot right by the stadium that surely has the makings of being a game day hit.
Mountaineer Tap House is within walking distance of Milan Puskar Stadium – good for game day.
But it’s also within driving distance of many of the craft breweries that keep the taps stocked all week.
“Our local breweries sell well, like our Stumptown our Shortstory. Mountain State provides us with a lot of Dogfish and Southern Tier products that go really well,” said Melissa Reid, General Manager.
Forty beers are on tap at all time and more are in the back to be put on the next day, ranging from your traditional, big name brews, to local, and West Virginia-native lagers.
Tap House keeps a constant rotation, and luckily for those over 21, you can take your favorite home with you.
“We sell our draft beer to go in a crowler, it’s called. It’s a 32 ounce can, and we have a machine that seals it here. So you can get any one of our draft beers to take with you. It’s really neat. I think we’re the first in Morgantown with a crowler machine,” said Reid.
“These are our cans that you can take home with you. So we put the date and then the alcohol percentage on it. And then I get to use this cool machine. And then they have one of their own beers that they can take home,” said bartender, Ashley McMahon, while showing me how the crowler works.
Of course I couldn’t leave the tap house without trying some of their wings. They’ve got two signature flavors here. You’ve got the salt and vinegar, and the fajita lime.
Mountaineer tap house is located at on Oakland Street in Morgantown, just behind the West Virginia University Alumni Center.
