Test It Tuesday: Sensei Slicer

Test it Tuesday

The word “Sensei” means “teacher” in Japanese, and we’re hoping this week’s Test It Tuesday product, The Sensei Slicer, teaches us a thing or two about cooking!

Meteorologist Kristian Claus is a chef in his own right and is always telling us about his delicious creations.

“I used to work in a restaurant, so I do a lot of cooking now and a lot of slicing, too. I like to prep my own ingredients. I’m really looking forward to trying this out,” said Chef Claus. “It only has a blade on one side, so I’m interested to see what happens when you try to slice with a one-sided knife.”

We cut up some avocado, peppers, onions, chicken breast, and an apple. Right away, Claus had good things to say.

“It’s working extremely well,” said Claus. “I was pretty surprised how well the knife handled everything. It actually seemed to do a little better than my knife at home. The pepper was a little more difficult, just because it’s a little more fine to shop. It really handled the fruit and the vegetables well. It went right through the chicken very accurately.”

When it came to the knife’s durability and design, however…

“The handle feels a little cheap. It’s a plastic-type of material, and I doubt that will hold up very long. I think that the blade will probably not last too long, so although it’s a little cheaper, it probably will go bad quickly,” said Claus. “But for $4.99, I would highly recommend this product for about a six-month period.”
