A $25,000.00 grant was presented to the Marion County Disability Action Center and Homestead Farm Center on Friday morning.
This is the State Farm Neighborhood Assist Grant which is the result of a ten day online crowd sourced vote done nationwide.
Voters were able to choose community organizations that they felt deserved this money.
The votes started in June with 2,000 applicants and was then narrowed to 200.
“Once we reached the top 200, we had no control over how it was going to go. It was literally through social media, press, print media, that everyone got the word out, they liked it, they loved it, they shared it. They went online and voted everyday for ten days. So it was literally the community that won this award for us, not us, and we want to say thank you,” said Julie Sole, Marion County Disability Action Center.
The Disability Action Center and Homestead Farm Center were one of 40 organizations to receive this $25,000.00 grant. This money will go toward an outdoor classroom at the Homestead Farm Center.
