In late July, a Rivesville man, Justin Lancianese, 35, was arrested for leaving a dog named Winston trapped inside a sealed lunch bag and under a large book in a ditch in Marion County.
As Winston was nearly left for dead and blind in both of his eyes, the probability for survival was nearly impossible, but the Marion County Humane Society workers feel that based on the quick recovery of this brave little dog ‘anything is possible’.
“He’s eating well, he’s gaining weight, he’s off his medications. We’ve raised almost $3,000 for his eye surgery, so hopefully we’ll have that done for him and he’s got the okay by the veterinarian to get seen in Pittsburgh to make sure that he can be seen and get everything done for him,” said Frankie Spatafore from the Marion County Humane Society.
Spatafore continued to speak about how she is very happy with the progress of Winston, and thankful for all who have donated for his surgery.
“He came very far very quickly. We were surprised on how fast he recovered and he’s acting like a new dog. He is happy living life,” said Spatafore.
The overall operation for both eyes will cost roughly $6,000 dollars.
