At this Tuesday’s Fairmont city council meeting, council nominated Valerie Means for the city manager position.

16 applicants applied for the position, and after going into executive session, council decide to select Means.

Means was previously the city manager for Hagerstown in Maryland.

The city will move forward to negotiate a contract with Means, they say her experience will help her to come in and get the job done.

Means was nominated by a split decision, with opposing vote from councilman Bledsoe.

“We wanted someone who understood West Virginia, understands our culture, appreciated the value of what we have, and is able to move it forward. I think Valeria Means fits all of those criteria.” said Philip Mason, Deputy Mayor, District 7.

The nominated is still pending final negotiations, the city hopes to finalize the position as soon as possible.
