Veterans and students gathered together Wednesday afternoon to fill the ‘Fairview Fire Hall’ as Fairview Elementary students hosted the fourth annual appreciation program for local veterans, in continuation of ‘veterans day’ celebration.
Each grade sang songs of patriotism, while some even played instruments to showcase their love, respect and appreciation to those who risked their lives in the name of freedom.
“I started this because my dad passed away. When we buried him my mom said that it was a shame that he wasn’t here to get the recognition that he deserves and I thought ‘no man or woman should wait until they die to receive the recognition for the sacrifices that they made’.” said June Haught, 2nd grade teacher at Fairview.
Along with songs each student hand made a card and gift of appreciation for the veterans, as a way of saying ‘thank you’.
