Marion County grand jury releases June 2019 indictments


FAIRMONT, W.Va. – The Marion County grand jury released a list of indictments for the June 2019 term.

Among the people indicted is Damon Sturgeon, 39, of Mannington.  Sturgeon is charged with illegal possession of any destructive or incendiary device.  Sturgeon is accused of possessing a backpack that contained three pipe bombs.

Christopher Lasher, 39, of Morgantown, is charged with threats of terrorist acts; brandishing a deadly weapon; second offense driving while license revoked for driving under the influence of alcohol, controlled substances or drugs; possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine; possession with intent to deliver cocaine; and conspiracy to commit a felony.  Lasher is accused of conspiring to sell methamphetamine and threatening hotel employees in separate 2018 incidents.

John Swann, 40, of Mannington, is charged with four counts of first degree sexual assault and four counts of sexual abuse by a parent, guardian, custodian or person in a position of trust to a child.

Swann is accused of touching a girl’s genitals with his mouth and hands.  The girl was younger than 12 during the incidents, which occurred between December 2015 and November 2017, according to court documents.

Damon Butler, 19, of Fairmont, is charged with first degree sexual assault; second degree sexual assault; first degree sexual abuse; attempted first degree sexual abuse; possession of nude images of minors; and false swearing.

Butler is accused of committing or attempting to commit sexual acts against four children.  The acts include oral sex on a girl; attempting to force a child to engage in sexual contact; the touching of a girl’s genitals with his hand; forcing a girl to perform oral sex on him; forcing sex on a girl; attempting to force a child to touch his genitals; possessing nude images of a girl; lying about having knowledge of one of the children; and lying about possessing nude images of a child, according to court documents.  The incidents happened between May 2016 and May 2018, according to court documents.
