The second annual study on America’s healthiest places was released today, breaking down counties within the state.
Researchers connected with Smart Assets released the list, which named Marion County one of the top five healthiest counties in West Virginia.
The statistics broke down the number of residents per 100,000 individuals affected by adult smokers, obesity, excessive drinking and years of potential life lost before the age of 75.
“The higher quality foods the healthier foods tend to cost more, so if you have a tight budget you just can’t afford to buy the healthier foods. So, I think it starts with if you can’t do that then maybe increase the lifestyle, exercises and activities to get away from so much sedentary lifestyle.” said Lloyd White, director of Marion County Health Department.
Putnam, Ohio and Jefferson counties all ranked higher than Marion County, with Monongalia County ranked at number one.
