FAIRMONT, W.Va-The Marion County Board of Education used its Family Literacy Fair on Saturday to encourage children to read.
The event focused on the importance of reading and literacy and children who attended received several free gifts, including books and pencil bags.
Local organizations set up tables to give out information and give out door prizes. Additional activities included the bookmobile, a STEAM bus with activities and food trucks.
“We’re trying to make sure that parents are engaged with their children with literacy and that we’re doing every effort we possibly can to show how important it is for everybody to be able to read,” said Randall Farley of Marion County Schools.
All parents and grandparents in attendance also received advice on how to keep kids interested in reading throughout the summer months.
