Palatine Park completes first weekend of 'iceless' ice skating

FAIRMONT, W.Va. - For the fourth year in a row, Palatine Park is hosting free iceless ice skating.

This is happening where the splash zone is during the summer.

It's not real ice on the ground, but the surface does resemble the fun of skating on the ice. Skate rentals are free, and it's a fun outing for the family.

It's also, as one skater found out, even a good idea for a special surprise on her birthday.

"It's really cool because I don't have to be lonely while I'm skating. So it's much easier, and you always have someone to depend on you," said Hannah Hanlin.

Skating continues each of the next two weekends, as well.

Skating times are as follows:

Friday, December 14 from 5-9 p.m. ; Saturday, December 15 from Noon to 8 p.m. ; Friday, Dec. 21 from 5-9 p.m. ; Saturday Dec. 22 from Noon to 8 p.m.
