Rustic Mechanicals host ShakesBEERean Fundraiser to prep for upcoming season

Marion

Local Shakespeare fanatics got the chance to have some fun Saturday night in Rivesville.

Short Story Brewing was the site of the “ShakesBEERean fundraiser” held by the Rustic Mechanicals, a group that’s part of the Vintage Theatre company.

On tap was Shakespeare-based trivia, as well as a reading of Shakespeare’s well-known play “the Twelfth Night” — appropriate given that Saturday was the twelfth night of Christmas, officially ending the Christmas season.

“When we discovered that Twelfth Night landed on a Saturday, we thought it was a great time to do what we call a friend-raiser, where we have a big event, we try to sell some merchandise, we give away some cupcakes, and here in just a minute we’re going to do an abridged reading of the play Twelfth Night. We’ve got four shows coming up in 2019. So part of this is getting the word out about that, and then part of it is maybe, if we’re lucky, raising a little funds to be some seed, to help us start that season off right,” said Jason Young, the Artistic Director at the Vintage Theatre Company.

The Rustic Mechanicals will begin touring in the spring, with their first show, “Measure for Measure” scheduled for April in Clarksburg, with other performances to follow in June, July and October throughout the state.
