Two former teachers create book to showcase the rich history of FSHS

Marion

The hallways of Fairmont Senior High School, typically filled with excited students going to their next class is also filled with history. That same history is the main reason why two former ladies plan to tell the history of FSHS that flows from within the foundation.

“This school is 150 years old. This is the third entity of the school. So we’ve spent two years researching and working on the book.” said Carol Amos, co-author of the book.

Carol Amos and Linda Morgan had the idea of co-creating ‘Voices of Fairmont Senior High School’ after sharing stories of the past with fellow alums. As a way to keep the history alive, the 160 page book will display more than 200 pictures in chronological order showing records of all the historical moments of the school.

“In 1979 I can remember how we all learned that the school was on fire and how we ended up across the street watching the school burn and we have recordings from one teacher, Irene Martin especially who tells how that event took place and what happened after.” Morgan told 12 News.

Copies of the book will be available for $50 per hard copy. Both Amos and Morgan confirmed 100% of the proceeds will go back into the structure of Fairmont Senior through the books being sold, as they raise money to redo the stone engraving, bridge crossing  and gate posts.

“What we want more than anything more than anything is for the current students and the teachers that are here now to realize what you call the rich history here at Fairmont Senior High School. said Morgan.

The estimate cost of the revamping process is set at $28,000. Both authors say they hope they can exceed was is asked for the remodeling, as they look to eventually add a personal school-based museum to showcase artifacts, timeless pieces and much more for all to enjoy.

“We just hope everyone will come and help us share the story, celebrate the milestone, preserve the legacy.” said Amos.

The reveal party for the book will take place at Fairmont Senior High tomorrow at 6 and Sunday starting at 2.

Only 1,000 copies available for fundraising purchasing.

Amos and Morgan will announce signing events for Aril and May at various local businesses. You can visit www.fairmontseniorhighschool.com for a list of businesses, as well as times and dates of signing events.
