Marion County Park officials will soon start renovation on the West Fork River ‘Ralph S Larue’ trail.
The 16 mile trail, connecting Shinnston to Fairmont will soon be closed at the ‘Norway Trestle’ in order to be fully rebuilt for a safer travel way for bicycle, equestrian and other ways of travel.
“Once connected, it will be part of a bigger cohesive trial system that will cover over 400, 500 miles of rail trail system so this is just, we got to fix up what we have, and we got to get them connected. Then we’ll have quite a trail system through West Virginia here, all the way from Pittsburgh to Parkersburg. So, this is a big part with working toward that step,” said Tony Michalski Director of MCPARC.
The 75 thousand dollar project includes funding from the Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration ‘recreational grant’.
The grant was a 20% to 80% grant with 80% of the $75k being provided through federal sources.
