One organization that Girl Scout cookie sales helps is the West Virginia Gold Star Mothers.
This organization brings together mothers who have lost a son or daughter in military action.
They also give back to veterans in their community in a number of ways, and one way is through Girl Scout Cookies.
Boxes of cookies are sent to veterans at various VA hospitals, nursing homes, and other groups working with the Gift of Caring program, as well as to men and women still on active duty.
It’s a treat that WV Gold Star Mothers president Shirley White says brings a smiles to veterans’ faces.
“This year the Girl Scouts is advocating donating. So if someone doesn’t want to buy a box of cookies for themselves, they can buy a box, donate it to the Gift of Caring Program and then we will get them distributed to veterans,” said White.
White also mentioned that cookies with peanut butter are probably the favorites among local veterans.
If you would like to donate cookies to West Virginia Gold Star Mothers you can do that through your local Girl Scout troop.
If there aren’t any troops near you, you can contact the WV Gold Star Mothers through their Facebook page.
