West Virginia is commonly known as a place of adventure but many are unfamiliar with the amount of outdoor activities this state truly has to offer.
Highland outdoors is a locally produced adventure excursion magazine that informs people on the wide variety of outdoor activities available throughout the state.
The editor and publisher of the magazine, Eric Lee, said the idea for the magazine sparked because of his love for the outdoors.
“We thought there’s a lot of activities that wasn’t getting enough play in other mediums, magazines, television otherwise, so we developed a full color news print style tabloid magazine that we could promote outdoor recreation in West Virginia,” said Lee.
Business developer Ryan Kuehn said this magazine was created in 2013 and is distributed in surrounding areas for free. The magazine offers two different variations including the Canyon Guide and the Gorge Guide.
“We have everything from you know fishing, kayaking, water activities, zip lining and anything that involves getting outside and just enjoying yourself,” said Kuehn.
You can also find the magazine being offered at many different events throughout the state where they raffle off free excursions such as zip lining.
“There’s a lot of activities in West Virginia people don’t know about, we’re here to try to let people know about those opportunities,” said Lee.
“We want people to understand that you know there’s a lot to do in this state. Let’s get out there, let’s enjoy it, you know we want to bring families together outside to enjoy the outdoors like we do,” said Kuehn.
Highland Outdoors produces four magazines a year and has high hopes of continuing spreading the love and knowledge for the outdoors and the many different excursions this wild and wonderful state has to offer.
