Local American Idol contestant performs show in Morgantown

Monongalia

Local American Idol hopeful, Cody Clayton Eagle, returned home Friday night to play a show for fans at Black Bear Burritos in Morgantown.

The 17-year-old Morgantown native recently received a golden ticket after his audition and will soon head to Hollywood to continue the competition.

Eagle says he started singing after two hip injuries left him unable to play sports.

“The second time my hip broke they said that I can’t play sports anymore, so I picked up the guitar again and I started getting serious about playing it and my parents got me guitar lessons and that’s where it kind of took off,” said Eagle.

Eagle says his mother found out that the show was holding auditions in Charleston and encouraged him to go.

“She asked me if I wanted to go do it and I said I’d give it a shot because I love to sing,” he said.

Eagle does not know exactly when he will go to Hollywood, but is busy preparing for the journey.
