Local 'Connecting Link' office to close at the end of July

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - A Monongalia County community resource organization will be closing its doors for good after 20 years of service.

Connecting Link executive director Jone Webb confirmed that for the pass 18 years, Connecting Link has been receiving funds from the ‘United Way’ of  Monongalia and Preston County.

The past 2 years their funding has been cut severely, and with the lack of operational funds through sources and grants – the board had no other choice but to close.

Webb said the decision was difficult, but in order to not have the agency as a whole at risk, the Connecting Link board had to reduce their presence in Mon County and concentrate once again to where their roots are in Marion County.

"Hopefully it will be very temporary, maybe a year or two. We were born in Marion County so we have to return to our roots to kind of get a better grasp of what the needs are in the community, then from there we'll work on expanding our services back to Mon County, hopefully." said Webb.

“We don’t want to see anyone go without services. They can call Christian Help in Mon County, they can call Salvation Army and they can also call us in Marion County. What we will do from here and see if they can qualify for what is called ‘Dollar Energy’. It is for heating and electrical needs. We can still do those applications from here in Marion County and we’ll be more than happy to do that.” stated Webb.
