Morgantown man receives unclaimed property check

Monongalia

Wednesday, a Morgantown man received an unclaimed property check for more than $17,000 from the State Treasurer’s Office.

Albert Metz Jr.’s father died in 1988 and money from an insurance policy would have gone to his mother, but she died in 2006.

Metz’ sister found their father’s name while doing a search on the treasurer’s unclaimed property website.

“Spoke to an attorney friend of mine and he kinda directed me.  I got in touch with Sandy Barton and he was very helpful with everything.  Kind of walked me through the process of how to do everything and wen to the courthouse in Fairmont and did all the paperwork and everything they required of me,” said Metz.

Metz said he plans to pay some bills and try to take it easy for a while.
