New Historic Thomas receives grant funding for mountain bike project

New Historic Thomas is $2,000 away from a $20,000 mountain bike trails construction and revitalization project.

Since January 2017, New Historic Thomas has been raising funds to construct a 2.4-mile trail in the Thomas City Trails System in Tucker County for beginner and children mountain bikers.  The organization was one of eight recipients nationwide to receive a $10,000 grant from People for Bikes.

“People come here from all over the world to mountain bike, but there’s not a lot of good mountain bike trails for families, for beginners, beginner mountain bikers, for children in the area.  They are all very technical trails that are tough. We started raising money to build a 2.4-mile beginner, easy loop,” said Emily Wilson-Hauger, New Historic Thomas executive director .

Tucker County Parks and Recreation, Tucker Community Foundation, Oakland Foundation and more have helped with donations.

For more information on the trail project or how to donate, visit the New Historic Thomas website and Facebook page.
