Charges have been filed against one man who is accused of going into a Boone County coal mine.  Deputies arrested Gary Gibson, 37, of Oceana, WV on charges of Breaking and Entering and Conspiracy.

According to a criminal complaint, Deputies were called to the Wells Complex Mine in Boone County at around 1 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 26, 2018 over a possible mine theft.  Investigators spoke with a woman who said she was waiting to pick up Gibson and Wes Blackburn.  She told the deputy they were inside the mine.

The mine had been sealed by the coal company and “No Trespassing” signs were posted.  Deputies said the two men are believed to have broken through the concrete barrier in order to steal copper inside the mine.

Gibson is being held in the Southwestern Regional Jail on a $30,000 bond.  Wes Blackburn is still missing.  His family organized a protest in front of the Boone County Courthouse on Monday, Dec. 17 to ask for assistance in finding their loved one.
