Betsy Jividen appointed to West Virginia Corrections Commission

Betsy Jividen has been appointed by Governor Jim Justice as Commissioner of the West Virginia Division of Corrections.

Governor Justice says he chose Jividen because she has been a tough federal prosecutor and for her leadership skills.

She was sworn in as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in 1980 and was the first woman to be named to that position in the Northern District of West Virginia.

She served two terms as interim and acting U.S. Attorney and was acting U.S. Attorney for the Northern District for most of 2017.

She also has extensive experience with corrections issues.

She represented the Federal Bureau of Prisons, its staff, and officers for more than 25 years in lawsuits filed by inmates and supervised the prosecution of crimes occurring inside federal correctional facilities for more than 10 years.
