Campaign financing now to be reported online

Politics

Candidates have started to prepare for the May election.

The West Virginia Secretary of State’s Office has been helping candidates and campaign managers get adjusted to its new Campaign Finance Reporting System through learning seminars.

West Virginia Secretary of State’s Office representatives said that the new reporting system will create better transparency in election and campaign financing, and the program is now all online.

“It’s a little bit different. We had a candidate come in that said he hasn’t had to file online for 22 years, and this year they are required to do online. And it is an adjustment so we are happy to be able to give them training to show them how to do it,” said Dot Underwood with the Secretary of State’s Office.

The office will also be providing webinars for those who cannot make it to one of the training seminars.
