Congressman David McKinley hosted a public forum regarding the opioid crisis in rural America, Monday, at University High School.
McKinley could not be there due to an unforeseen trip to Washington D.C., but his representatives, and a panel of leading experts in the fight against opioid abuse were present to speak to, and field questions from, the audience, which included members of Mountaineers for Progress. The panel included D.E.A. officials, medical professionals, as well as representatives from the West Virginia Office of Drug Control Policy. The next step for local government is to continue to support law enforcement.
“We now have to work with law enforcement, treatment, first responders, the medical professions and everybody to accomplish this goal,” said Karl Colder, special agent for the D.E.A.
McKinley recently supported budgetary cuts including cuts to Medicaid.
