Several new people will be taking their seats in office after winning on Election Day.

In Upshur County, voters decided on races for the House of Delegates, county commission and county clerk.

In the 45th Delegate District, Republican Carl “Robbie” Martin won 67 percent of the vote over Democrat Matthew Kerner.

Martin’s brother, Republican Patrick Martin, won re-election to the 46th Delegate District.

Carl Martin said one of the items he will focus on is education.

“I feel like education is what can help a lot of the issues we’re facing in West Virginia.  Our drug epidemic, people leaving our state, the economy; it all boils down to education,” said Delegate Elect Carl Martin.

Carl Martin said he served on the Upshur County Board of Education for three years before running for the House of Delegates.
