Representative David McKinley is working to make sure West Virginia gets its fair share of the nearly $40 billion in federal grant money that is up for grabs.
The congressman has partnered with West Virginia University to bring in leaders of the National Institutes of Health for a two day workshop in Morgantown.
McKinley said the goal is to make sure grant applications are filled out correctly to bring in more money for healthcare research in colleges and universities throughout the state.
“So, what we want to do is, we want to get as many people here together, as we’ve done all over the state, to sit down and talk with the executives, the leadership of NIH, so that when they get an application, they’re going to understand the necessity and the value of contracting with people in West Virginia to continue this research in healthcare,” said Representative David McKinley.
McKinley said West Virginia ranks 45th in the country when it comes to getting these grants.
