Tunnelton community hosts meeting concerning deteriorating underpass

Preston

The town of Tunnelton is historically known for its tunnels, but it’s time for an upgrade.

The Tunnelton community held a meeting at the local Apostolic Church in order to express its concern about an aged underpass that has been falling apart.

The underpass has been a part of the town since the early 1900s and has not been repaired since.

Members of the community such as Mriann Plum said the community have been petitioning for signatures in order to receive funding for a new bridge.

“At this point, it’s becoming so deteriorated that we are now needing a new solution to the problem,” Plum said. “Something that would be accessible for all of our ambulance vehicles, our police, our fire department, just our regular citizens.”

The meeting not only included members of the town but also senators along with town mayor in order to show their support.

Members of the community said they have almost reached its goal of 1,000 signatures and have only about 300 signatures left to reach that goal and potentially receive the funding they are seeking.
