In honor of April being Sexual Assault Awareness month, students at the Davis and Elkins College participated in the Take Back the Night Event.
Davis and Elkins College sociology students are joining the worldwide effort of taking a stand against sexual violence.
Richard Thornton, the professor of the class, said the Take Back the Night event included a night of discussion followed by a march around Elkins to help spread awareness of sexual violence around the community.
“The more action you take, the more accountability you take, the more voice you get out there you know even in a small town like Elkins it’s worth it, it adds to the chorus of the voice about these important issues,” said Thornton.
The night concluded with a brief signing ceremony promoting awareness of every day sexism, racism and all forms of discrimination.
