Anytime Fitness of Elkins, Buckhannon, and Summersville began the week by hosting a 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb event.
Throughout the week community members can stair climb at each location to commemorate the 343 FDNY Firefighters that lost their lives on 9/11. One local firefighter says he was nine when the towers went down and the stair climbing gave him a connection to the day.
“Remembering that day—I don’t remember a whole lot, but going that day, to the stair claim, gave it a whole new meaning,” said Elkins Fire Department Firefighter Owen Poe.
Funds raised during the week-long climb will go to the National Fallen Firefighters Association. The association supports families whose loved ones have died in the line of duty.
