A local author was signing copies of her book Saturday at the Elkins-Randolph County Public Library.
Linda Zimmer’s first book, titled “Playing with memory,” is a personal memoir of her helping her mother cope with dementia.
Zimmer gained inspiration through her mother, as well as other patients with similar conditions.
The book can serve as a guide for those that are caring for a loved one who is battling a mental illness through arts.
Zimmer is an experience writer, but this is likely the most personal piece she’s ever done.
“And initially, I was just working with my own mother. And then when it was necessary for her to move into a nursing home I became the expressive arts therapist there. And that’s when I really … Sort of everything came together. The kinds of work I had done before as a teaching artist, and a creative arts specialist and just applying it to this population,” said Zimmer
The book, just released in November, is available on Amazon.
