New decorations placed in downtown Elkins

Randolph

Downtown Elkins is featuring some new Christmas decorations just in time for the holiday season.

Members of the Finance Committee and Elkins City Council voted to purchase 50 snowflake lights for the downtown area, including South Davis Avenues, Railroad Avenue, and several adjacent streets.  Mayor Van Broughton said the holiday season starts a little earlier in Elkins and the lights are a great addition to downtown.

“Our Christmas starts the middle of November, and right there at Thanksgiving too.  We got a lot of people from out of town and even out of state coming to ride the train.  We want to have the Christmas and winter wonderland atmosphere downtown,” said Mayor Broughton.

Officials said the previous lights used were more than 30 years old and needed to be replaced.

This year is the first for the lights to be added to Railroad Avenue.
