Randolph County Commission proclaims county a ‘Purple Heart County’

Randolph County Commission made a proclamation to designate Randolph County a “Purple Heart County” in support of Purple Heart recipients, veterans and active military.

Randolph County is one of many to attain this distinction, and organizers hope all 55 counties will follow suit. Veterans and organizers say they are hopeful the dedications will teach more about the Purple Heart.

“There’s so many people that really doesn’t recognize Purple Heart.  I’ve had them say ‘What is Purple Heart?’ and that kind of makes you think,” said Army Veteran and Purple Heart Recipient Benny Shifflett.

Organizers said the goal is to have all West Virginia counties dedicated before the Purple Heart Foundations visits the state in 2020.
