Randolph County fatal fire funds set up trust fund for surviving family member

Randolph

Elkins Mayor Van Broughton has made a decision related to a fund that was started after a deadly fire in the city back in 2013.

A public meeting on February 19 addressed what was being done with money raised after that house fire killed six people from one family.

For three years, money for funeral expenses and a trust fund for Alan Chamberlain, the sole surviving family member, has been held up in court.

“We do have a trust fund set up for a member of the family.  We are going, this spring and summer, to see how some of it will be memorialized for the loss of life for the youth, and the funeral expenses has all been paid in full. I want to thank the community for coming together,” said Mayor Broughton.

Funds have been allocated for funeral costs, a trust fund for Chamberlain, and some set aside for the memorial.
