Randolph County superintendent announced retirement

ELKINS, W.Va. – Randolph County Superintendent Gabe Devono has announced his retirement from the job at the end of the June.

Devono came to the county after stints as the Gilmer County Superintendent and the director of RESA 7.

His contract was up for renewal this year, and instead of moving ahead with the process, he decided to clear the way for the board to begin a search.

He said the decision to retire after this year was not an easy one.

“Education’s been all my life and getting out and things of that nature, it was a heavy decision to make.  And I have a great place to work right here.  That event made it worse,” said Devono.

Devono expects the board will begin the process of searching for his replacement later this week.
