Shelter available in Randolph County after flooding

Randolph

Randolph County Commission called an emergency session and declared a localized state of emergency.

Since then, Governor Jim Justice has declared a state of emergency for 10 counties. The 10 counties are: Randolph, Barbour, Braxton, Gilmer, Lewis, Pocahontas, Tucker, Upshur, Webster and Pendleton.

More than a dozen water rescues have taken place throughout Randolph County, said OEM 911 Director Cindy Hart.

Hart added, an emergency shelter is open at Camp Pioneer in Beverly.

“Please do not drive through the water. That’s been the biggest problem that we’ve had. People are not taking that serious and not realizing how deep the water is and how swift it is. Thank God we’ve had no fatalities, but we did have one that was extremely close,” Hart.

The American Red Cross is working with families at Camp Pioneer. Hart added if you don’t have transportation call 911 and they can assist you.
