RCB’s honorary bat boy scores home run

A local high school game had a particularly happy ending Tuesday night.

Robert C. Byrd’s Baseball Coach Mark Jones invited Dylan Cunningham, 18, to be an honorary bat boy for the game against Lewis County, according to Christy McClain, Cunningham’s mother.

To Cunningham’s surprise, Coach Jones let Cunningham dress and bat at the end of the game, McClain said. Cunningham hit the ball and was able to run all of the bases for a home run.

McClain said that Cunningham has Down Syndrome and typically plays challenger baseball.
