WESTON, W.Va. – West Virginia Secretary of State Mac Warner inducted 18 Lewis County senior citizens into the West Virginia Voters Hall of Fame Friday afternoon in Weston.

The citizens were all voters who have participated in every statewide election for 50 straight years. New Hall of Fame member Ron Fisher said the only way to get your voice heard is to get out and vote.

“I guess, [I’m] just someone that has been interested in their country and I’ve made some good x’s and some bad x’s, but if I’m going to complain then I’m going to vote,” Fisher said.

Secretary of State Warner said he was inspired by the community involvement and civic responsibility shown by these citizens.

“I’m really proud to be here in Lewis County. They’re obviously doing some things great. It’s that community involvement,” Secretary of State Warner said. “You only get that kind of response if the community sees it as a civic responsibility. So, for me, to be here to pass out certificates to people who have voted in every election for 50 years, I mean that’s inspiring.”

The West Virginia Voters Hall of Fame is located at the State Capitol in Charleston.
