Six Hazelton prison employees assaulted

Six Hazelton Federal Prison employees were assaulted in the first week of 2019, according to union officials.

The Federal Bureau of Prisons said on Friday, January 4th an inmate assaulted four USP Hazelton prison staff members, resulting in a lockdown of the federal facility.

A second incident on Saturday, January 5th officers said, an inmate did not comply and became physically combative. One USP Hazelton staff member sustained minor injuries, according union officials.

A third incident took place on Monday, January 7th where staff responded to an inmate who failed to comply and was physically combative. However, officials said, the FCI Hazelton staff member who was assaulted did not sustain any injuries.

The incidents continue the violence reported at the prison in the previous year, when three inmates were killed at the high-security facility and a number of staff were injured.
