Just in time for Mardi Gras season, WalletHub has released a study of the “most sinful states in America.” West Virginia comes in right around the middle, at 29, but it is the rankings that were added together to come up with the “most sinful” index that are the most telling.
WalletHub ranked the states on the following categories to determine the index: anger and hatred, jealousy, excesses and vices, greed, lust, vanity and laziness. West Virginia ranked first when it came to laziness, third on greed, sixth on excesses and vices, but 50th on vanity.
Despite the excesses and vices rank, WalletHub found that West Virginians drink excessively less than every other state, except Utah. Meanwhile, it found that the state has the fifth worst drug problem and the sixth worst gambling addiction problem in the country.
Nevada, Florida, California, Texas and Tennessee ranked as the top five “most sinful,” while Vermont was listed as the least.
